Ari Khndzoresk (Come to Khndzoresk)
For this project we’ll be helping a rug and carpet making workshop called Ari Khndzoresk, which translates to ‘Come to Khndzoresk’, by providing them with some furniture that is essential to their current operation and future expansion. We’ll be placing the order for the furniture with the carpenter, pay for the furniture and deliver furnature to the workshop. The Ari Khndzoresk rug and carpet workshop operates out of Khndzoresk, Syunik, Armenia, under Narek Adamyan’s management, a Canadian Armenian diasporan.
The purpose of this workshop is to provide part-time and full-time employment to local women in the village of Khndzoresk, and to help empower these amazing local women. The workshop’s goal is to create favorable and attractive work conditions to help prevent population outflow from this beautiful village. We believe that the work that is being undertaken by this workshop will contribute to restoration and development of regional traditions.
This workshop is a perfect merger of locals and tourists. Tourists can visit this amazing workshop and engage in rug and, or carpet making where the tourists will see and learn about the art of rug and carpet making. They’ll get to make a small piece of rug or carpet, where they can take their labor of love home with them after their visit.
The workshop needs some simple furniture to be able to provide services to the tourists; they require a large cabinet and six (6) work desks with a total cost of 720,000 AMD, roughly $2,667 with the current exchange rate of $1 CAD to 270 AMD.
